Catching up with a friend who had a baby. They moved to Lower East Side’s relatively affordable housing pocket next to the projects because they can no longer afford Brooklyn. The long-time residents in her building are already grumbling and hating the newcomers (it doesn’t matter that she actually grew up on Lower East Side and that her mom lives in an adjacent building).

Stroller-mom-judgment is alive and well in Brooklyn, I learn. Stay-at-home moms judge and exclude you based on not only the brand, but also a year (if you buy second-hand, they’ll know: stroller companies change the colors each year!) and customization options of your child’s stroller. Playground ostracism is real, hurtful and can be really isolating.
