a job description my sister sent me requires “reasonable working knowledge of AI techniques including machine learning, natural language processing, web services, and formal semantics.”
While I obviously do not quality, it would have been useful in the last product I worked on in my old company (and my ideas were quickly nixed by the people who approve the budgets). Had I been a little less risk averse (and my current financial situation not as strained), building something (and selling it) on my own would have been an option.
Anyway, I have no working knowledge or experience. There are classes on that at NYU, but they are offered only as a part of their graduate degree program – which is frankly not something I could contemplate now. In any case, they are available for free, making me acutely feel how firmly I forgot my linear algebra and probability theory. Grrrr.
