Got my ex colleague to come out for lunch in this glorious weather. He is in a completely different stage in his life, but was similarly scarred by the changes in our old company. We used to vent to each other, and I was the optimist. He now runs an IT department at a hospital system, and says the workload and stress is about 20% of what we used to have.
He is content with where he is, and even quite happy.
At the same time, he says it is technologically backwards and highly bureaucratic.
The irony is that at least this year, there is, or expected to be, enough change in my life to make introduction of work upheaval undesirable (barring coming across something incredible). But I will keep him in mind and continue to stay in touch.
Health tech is more meaningful than fin tech, even if I don’t know much about it yet.
But isn’t pretty much everything?
