The Independent Mothers of Iceland

Two-thirds of Iceland’s babies are born to unwed mothers—the highest rate of out-of-wedlock births in the world—with couples often having children together and then getting married, or deciding not to. Six of these single mothers are the subject of Canadian photographer Annie Ling’s new series, “Independent Mothers.”
