Why does this middle-aged man have to play his violin on subway (so well), to help pay for his wife’s transplant ? (if his cardboard sign is to be believed)

Why is this rich country so f.cked up that almost everyone – no matter how superficially stable they are or capable or hardworking – is only one serious illness away from being destitute?

Needless to say, nothing can be done about it. Other than voting. In every election. For years. Or better yet running for office.
