Annie Leibovitz took this photo of Eileen Collins at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, during training. Collins was the first female pilot (Discovery in 1995) and first female commander (Columbia, 1999) of a space shuttle mission.
I don’t know why I’m listening to RNC rn. I’m a masochist. But Eileen Collins’s speech was the only normal one, and it sounded completely out of place in that sea of seething hatred.
She only spoke about space, discovery and humankind, and did not mention Trump, or Hillary, or even ‘murrca, even once.
Though I wish she’d mentioned who’s been cutting the NASA budget.
