The place where people still live, Mezmay village, Krasnodar Krai
The village was linked by a railway, but in 2011 the train service was completely interrupted due to a landslide. Less than a thousand inhabitants live there today. Mezmay is a popular tourist site with a lot of natural attractions (waterfalls, caves, canyons, etc.). In 1993, a perfectly preserved skeleton of a Neanderthal baby was found there.
