There was no energy to make dinner, and craving for bahn-mi and bubble tea
was real. The closest takeout place that could make them is 20 min
away, in a livelier neighborhood that we can no longer afford, and we’re
way outside their delivery zone.

But the weather was perfect, making the walk there pleasant, even along all
the empty streets that are made for cars and not people, with all their
garishly-lit closed halal food shops, masjids with their separate gender-binary entrances, clanging late-night garages and car-washes busy with
Uber cars and yellow cabs.

To my surprise, the walk yielded a relatively-close-by small
recently-opened Austrian place – that serves alcohol(!) – across from a
construction site (if rendering is to be believed, they’re building
something atrocious – why is all the well-designed stuff only built in
Manhattan?) and a new-looking taqueria (yippee) that actually looks like it
might be Mexican, and not Chinese-owned!

I need to explore more.
