“A normal US president is like a creature in the middle of a lake, his every move creating far-reaching ripples. This one is like a rock in a stream; he creates turbulence and is to be avoided, but everything flows on around him.”
For the past month or so, I’ve been pretty much exclusively reading Quartz as my primary news source (in addition to techcrunch, recode and new scientist – and a very carefully selected set of sources on Tumblr – I deliberately don’t follow a lot of blogs on here).
I did notice that at Quartz they ignore trump as much as they can – sometimes days go by without them mentioning him even once. Now I know why.
I have to say, ignoring trump requires a little discipline, but it is incredibly refreshing and calming. I highly recommend it.
“The president of the United States is an irrelevance. Pay close attention to those around him, but ignore the man himself. We can do it. We have the technology.”
Latest from @joanielemercier continuing his No-logram experiments presents what appears to be 3D forms in mid air (which are actually projections on transparent screen with viewer tracking):
– This is a video projection that appears to float in the air.
– The user is tracked to adjust perspective so objects appears in 3D.
– Unlike AR and VR, no headset, device or screen is required.
– You can control the projection with your hands.
– There is no limitation in scale.
– I’m developping this as an art installation
– It’s also available for special commissions.
THIS IS NOT A HOLOGRAM !
Holograms are still images captured on photographic plate with a laser, and were invented in 1971.
THIS IS A VIDEO PROJECTION appearing to float in the air and
following the viewers perspective, overlayed with the real world. Unlike
AR and VR, no headset, device or screen is required.

I’ll never understand people who are constantly defensive as though everything is an attack.
Chill out people.
cognitive-behavioural therapists have a term for that – mind-reading. “In this scenario, individuals assume – without attempts at verification – that others are reacting negatively to them. Cognitive-behavioural therapists typically regard mind-reading as a subtype of the broader tendency of individuals to jump to premature conclusions.”
Thing I learned from that Scott Lilienfield’s piece on microaggressions in Aeon.
A small child falling asleep in your arms is probably one of the most underrated best feelings out there.
Prediction: in five years, we shall see a lot of first-graders with slightly-worn Fjallraven-Kanken bookbags, as they fall out of grown-up trend and their parents offload them on their brood, (rightly) considering them better than whatever Hollywood would be pushing in 2022.
