Stayed in the city for the Sunday, but discovered part of the park I had no idea existed.
Also, there are lots of volunteers from Bloomberg walking shelter dogs. Looks like they lifted the entire volunteer program from my old company and copied it whole. Good for them.
Trying to research vets in this area – and discovering how Google Maps has a big gaping hole in the middle of Brooklyn without any vet offices!
So strange..
But then again for example my old country had just no concept of a vet for anything other than farm animals, so there’s probably something similar at play here.
Found a delightful little lake beach only 1.5 hours from the city. It is off a long dirt road and there is only a tiny inconspicuous sign, so it’s very uncrowded even on a hot summer Saturday. And they allow non-residents! Amazed it remained a secret but hoping it will stay this way!
Republicans want to give US National Parks, like Yellowstone National Part and the Grand Canyon, to oil, gas, mining, and forestry companies. For free.
This is likely to happen if millennials don’t vote. Not a joke. In addition to controlling women’s bodies (they’re winning btw, because y’all are dicking around), Republicans have been pushing giving parks away to their friends for years. It’s about to happen. Vote them out. Run for office yourself – why not!?
Millennials are now the largest voting demographic in America, yet they vote at the lowest rates in all of US history. Women were not allowed to vote until 1920. Blacks were not allowed to vote until (arguably) 1965. Thousands of people died and were jailed to secure your personal right to vote. Voting is a privilege that billions of people do not have.
I don’t like living in history, or sense that the history is being made right now.
At least, for a change, it’s happening somewhere else and not around here.
It’s only a matter of time though. Maybe that’s the reason enough to leave this city. Before it again becomes someplace where history is made.
Still, trying to make sense of it, of this crazy year.
Maybe re-reading Orhan Pamuk’s Snow would help it.
Or find his Museum of Innocence, which I’ve never read.
Also, Erdogan supporters are fanatics. One of my coworkers in Canada is one. He openly expressed hate for Ataturk and says he would gladly be rid of everyone who lives in Izmir (one of the most liberal parts of Turkey). Also, I remember Erdogan supporters driving around with flags and honking when he replaced the prime minister with his man while we were in France.
She says not to take him to daycare as it is highly contagious.
But R has to work, and I have a very pissed off client who is already complaining that things take too long and that they don’t get enough attention – and I have a deadline today, and I already worked till 2am last night.
What am I supposed to do now?
How do people have children in this country??
(** that’s why rich people have nannies **)
thanks for all the concerns!
I did a horrible irresponsible thing and took him to daycare anyway. He was in good mood and feeling fine otherwise. I told daycare that pediatrician wasn’t sure what caused the rash, but that they should be careful and wash their hands afterwards. He probably picked up this virus there in the first place anyhow.
